Three easy ways to drink more water

Staying hydrated is the quickest and cheapest way to sort out your skin, boost your energy levels and prevent yourself over eating. So why do we find it so hard to get enough of the good stuff?

Sadly, like most things that benefit us, water is not the most exciting thing in the world and it often gets shunned for tastier options, or nothing at all. With that in mind, here are three easy ways to get yourself drinking more water every day.

Buy a bottle

Invest in something shiny …or plasticy, or metallic, just as long as it’s pretty and you’re going to want to show it off on your desk every day – and, more importantly, use it! Just like buying new gym kit makes you want to exercise (as much as anything could ever make you want to exercise), buying a new water bottle will make you want to drink more water. I love my Bobble Bottle, which won’t break the bank or your back, as it’s light enough to carry around everywhere with you.

Give your life some lemons

Nothing can replace the comfort of a hot drink in the office, so why not switch up your tea for something a little more hydrating? Keep a fresh lemon in the office and drop a slice into a mug of hot water as an alternative to a brew. Not only will it up your water intake it will also preserve your pearly whites, as tea is a terrible source of teeth staining. Two beauty birds with one stone!

Get in to good habits

Set yourself a target and stick to it, be it one extra glass or one extra bottle of water a day.If you have a goal then you can measure your progress and stay motivated. Soon you’ll start seeing results and it will be easy to keep your good habits going.

What’s this? A hair product that actually works?! I didn’t believe such a thing existed!

After years of being fooled by hair products that claimed to give me Gisele-style soft and shiny locks and really delivered hair which looked more like a gazelle’s (think dry and coarse), I’d given up on the search for the perfect shampoo/conditioner/serum/anything else on the market.

Having said that, I’d always kept half an eye on the Elasticizer reviews. Everyone always said it had completely transformed the health of their hair but the price looked like it would leave my wallet feeling rather less than healthy. Luckily for me, my mum’s friend gave me a tube of Elasticizer that she didn’t want (crazy lady!) and lo and behold, the reviews are true.

The cream has made my hair feel so much softer, shinier and more manageable. While it hasn’t managed to completely eradicate bad hair days or the damage done from bleaching my hair, it has helped it on the road to recovery. It’s a bit of a faff to apply – you have to wet your hair and apply it in sections, then leave for twenty minutes before shampooing and conditioning – but it only needs doing every fortnight or so and the results are well worth it.

If you’re feeling like your hair could use some TLC, or you just want a bit of a high-end treat, then this is the thing for you.

Thursday Treat – L’Occitane Almond Delicious Hands Hand Cream

If your hands haven’t quite come out of winter hibernation, help them on their way with this gorgeous hand cream from L’Occitane.

It smells wonderfully creamy with just a hint of sweetness without being overpowering and the scent stays on your hands for hours after (just make sure no one catches you sniffing them dreamily!).

The cream has an ultra rich texture which melts into the hands almost instantly, leaving them feeling soft and nourished.

Unlike most hand creams, the packaging is pretty cool too. I love the metallic texture, although I’m one of those weirdos that hates ruining any sort of texture (the Tom Ford embossed lipstick was almost too pretty to use!) so I try and squeeze out as little as possible so I don’t crumple all the aluminium. Luckily you only need a drop to keep your hands soft for hours to come.

Everyone who’s ever had a job knows that mornings are for sleeping as late as physically possible and work is a place where you wait for the weekend. Okay, there are a few more things to do at work, but it’s absolutely not the place to waste your weekend face on – you know, when you’ve bothered to put foundation on and you’re looking on point.  Once you’ve got someone to have lunch with and your boss no longer thinks you’re just a work experience kid (“no, I actually go here”), it’s easy to stop making an effort at all and turn up with your dead dog face every day (for further explanation see here). However, you still have to bring your game face if you’re going to make it to Anna Wintour bad bitch CEO levels by the time you’re thirty, so it helps to look sassy at all times. Thursday Treat – the lipstick that will liven up your look

 Everyone is always searching for, or claiming to have found, the perfect red lipstick. The truth is, what is perfect for one person might look hideous on another – or just be hideously expensive. 

Having said that, I firmly believe this little revlon lipstick is a winner. Bright enough to be eyecatching (for all the right reasons) and easy to apply in a wind-up format, this is the first thing I reach for when I’m having a dead dog day. You know, those days where you have not enough sleep and too much to do, and frankly look like a dead dog that’s been dug up. On those days a slick of this does wonders to brighten up my complexion and distract from any dark circles or bad hair days. 

Aside from it’s powers of illusion, it also has a really nice moisturising formula and lasts really well on the lips.

It’s all too easy to reach for the biscuits when hunger hits at work, but since sugar has pretty much been proven to be the frenemy of the food world (seems really sweet but is secretly screwing you over), it’s time to change it up for some healthy alternatives.

Healthy office snacks might sound about as fun as anything else office-based, but it’s actually surprisingly easy to eat clean (ish) without having to force down celery sticks. Here are some simple ideas to clean up your snacks.

Berry good breakfast

When you’re half awake on a Monday morning, it’s all to easy to stuff down a couple of slices of toast as a quick breakfast boost. Unfortunately, toast is only slightly more nutritious than a piece of cardboard, and really isn’t going to set you up for the day.

For a healthy energy boost, grab a super cheap Kenwood blender and make your own smoothies. It might sound like a huge load of hassle, but the smart thing about this blender is that the jug actually transforms into a smoothie bottle that you can take on the tube to work. Only one thing to clean at the end of the day, and no messy pouring to be dealing with. What’s not to love? And it’s quicker to chuck a couple of strawberries, a banana and some yoghurt into the blender than it is to toast a few slices of bread, so no excuses! For an energy boost to last all day, pour some oats into the mix.

Funk up your fruit

If smoothies aren’t your thing, or you can’t face the thought of chopping the heads off all those poor innocent strawberries, it doesn’t mean you can’t get your five a day.

Buy a tub of peanut butter (preferably the organic healthy stuff – Pip & Nut‘s completely natural peanut butter looks set to be all the rage this year) and slather it over your banana or apple for a tastier way to get some of the good stuff into your diet.

Peanut butter is also high in energy-giving healthy fats, and luckily if you run out of fruit it tastes equally good on a spoon.

Going nuts

If that all sounds a bit messy for you, grab a bag of cashew nuts instead. They are a great way to get an energy boost without giving in to the sweet stuff. The natural fatty acids and proteins keep you feeling full for longer and cashew nuts are one of the lowest-calorie nuts out there (as long as you don’t eat the honey roasted kind of course).

A handful of these at elevenses will stop you scoffing a few hob nobs before lunch.
